Vault and settings

One encrypted .ngw3 file holds the accounts, the keys, the settings, and the audit log. These topics are where that file lives, how you copy it, and the options that sit next to the grid.

  1. Backup the vault
Key store → Backup vault. A backup is a copy of vault.ngw3. The same username and login password open it.
Copy vault backup writes one file where you choose. Keep a second copy that is not on the same disk.
Restore test only checks that the file has a valid vault header. It does not replace the live vault. To restore, close the program and put that file in place, or point Settings at it.
Scheduled backup runs only while you are signed in. If the program is closed or locked at the scheduled time, that slot waits until the next time you are signed in.
  2. Move the vault
Settings → Key store shows the current path. The default is %AppData%\NEXTGEN Widget Encrypt3\vault.ngw3.
Browse to a new location and save. The new path is stored for the next start. Sign in against that file with the same login password. MachineCode.txt stays in the default folder even if you move the vault.
  3. Watch folder
Operations → Watch folder. Choose the inbox, the output folder, and the private key that will encrypt. An optional recipient group adds those members as extra recipients. Turn it on and save.
Only files are encrypted. A folder dropped in the inbox is ignored. Stay signed in. Finished originals move to Processed. A file that cannot be encrypted moves to Failed with a short error note. The audit log records which key was used.
  4. Recipient groups and the grid filter
Operations → Recipient groups. Type a name (financial, technical, sales), check the member keys, and save. The name box clears after a successful add, and you are told the members were saved.
The filter above the grid lists those names. Matching is by keyword and is not case-sensitive. The same group can be selected in Watch folder.
  5. Explorer encrypt and decrypt
Operations → Windows Explorer integration registers Encrypt and Decrypt on the Windows right-click menu.
If this program is already signed in, Explorer uses that session. You are not asked to log in again. The task window is brought to the front. Armor is on that encrypt dialog. Decrypt keeps the original file name when the packet contains it.
  6. Update
Settings → Software update and license.
Authorize checking every 30 days, and you get a confirmation that the choice was saved. Check for update runs now. If there is no internet connection, you are told. If the version on the server is newer, you are notified at the next login. If it is not newer, nothing is shown.
