Vault and settings — Move the vault

Where: Settings → Key store → Change location.

Use this when the working .ngw3 should live on another drive or folder. This is not a dated backup.

Steps

  1. Sign in.
  2. Settings → Key store.
  3. Note the current path.
  4. Choose Change location.
  5. Pick the new folder and file name. The filter is *.ngw3.
  6. The program copies the vault to that path and saves the path in the application config.
  7. Confirm the text box shows the new path.
  8. You should see a success notice.

After a move

  • Sign out and sign in once to be sure the new file opens.
  • Keep the old file only until you have confirmed the new one. Then you may delete or archive the old copy.
  • Explorer shortcuts and Watch folder paths do not move by themselves.

Do not

  • Edit the path box by hand and expect the file to follow. Use Change location.
  • Store the only copy on a USB stick you will misplace.
  • Point two PCs at the same file on a share unless you know only one person will write it at a time (this vault is not a multi-writer server).

If it fails

  • No write permission on the destination.
  • Disk full.
  • You cancelled the save dialog — the old path remains in use.
