Watch folder
Vault and settings — Watch folder
Where: Tools or Settings → Watch folder.
Drop files into an inbox folder. Encrypt3 encrypts them to a key you select and writes the ciphertext to an output folder. It does not encrypt folders you drop in.
Set it up
- Open Watch folder.
- Choose the inbox folder (example: Watch folder In).
- Choose the output folder (example: Watch folder Out).
- Select the key used to encrypt. Pick a key you can decrypt later (it should have secret material in this vault), not a random grid row.
- Optional: recipient group name.
- Save. You should see that settings were stored.
Leave Encrypt3 running (or at least signed in, not locked) so the watcher can work.
What happens
- You copy a finished file into the inbox.
- The watcher waits until the file is done growing, then encrypts to the selected key.
- Success: ciphertext in the output folder.
- The original is moved to Processed under the inbox.
- Failure: file goes to Failed under the inbox.
Decrypt
Use File Task → Decrypt file on the output file. Enter the passphrase for the secret key you chose in Watch folder.
Do not expect
- Subfolders dropped in the inbox to be packed as a tree (files only).
- Encryption if the program is closed or the session is locked.
- A mystery recipient — if you did not pick a key, you will not know what opens the files. Always set the key.
If it fails
- First file worked, later files went to Failed — the file was still being written, or the key/policy rejected it. Leave the file alone until the copy finishes.
- No key selected — set one and Save.
- Inbox and output are the same folder — use two different folders.
- Idle lock — unlock, then drop the file again.
Next
File Task for one-off files. Recipient groups if you filter by group instead of one key.
