Updates
Vault and settings — Updates
Where: Settings → Software update & license.
The program compares this build’s version to a one-line text file on the update host:
https://www.ngwidgetsoftware.com/patches/VersionUpdate3.txt
(or the host you configured for Encrypt3). The file contains only the newest version, for example v1.0.0.2.
Automatic check
- Check Authorize checking for an update every 30 days.
- You should see a confirmation that automatic checks are on (or off if you uncheck).
- After a successful sign-in, when 30 days have passed since the last successful check, the main window can notify you.
- If the server version is newer, you get both version numbers. If you are current, there is no notice.
- If there is no Internet at that moment, you are told there is no connection.
Opening Settings does not show that confirmation; only changing the box does.
Manual check
- Choose Check for update.
- The program checks Internet first, then reads the version file.
- You are told: new version, already current, no Internet, or the file could not be read.
The button does not freeze the window; wait for the message.
License button
License on the same tab is for the license / evaluation dialog, not for downloading a new exe.
If it fails
- No .config next to the exe can break other features; it is not a substitute for this check.
- Firewall or offline PC — use the manual button when you have a network.
- You never see a 30-day balloon — the box is off, or 30 days have not passed since a successful check.
Next
Download a new zip from your product site when a newer version is announced. Keep NextGenWigetEncrypt3.exe.config beside the new exe. Licensing if you also need the machine code from About.
