Getting started — If something fails

The program does not start

  • Extract the zip again. NextGenWigetEncrypt3.exe and NextGenWigetEncrypt3.exe.config must be in the same folder.
  • Do not run a copy of the exe alone on the Desktop.
  • If Windows blocked a downloaded file: right-click → Properties → Unblock.
  • Evaluation expired: the license window will not let you continue until you have a valid license or a current evaluation.

Cannot create an account

  • Passwords must match.
  • Login password must be at least eight characters.
  • If a vault already exists at the configured path, sign in instead of creating a second account in the same file.

Cannot sign in

  • Username and password are for the vault, not the OpenPGP key.
  • Three wrong passwords and the program exits. After a good sign-in, the welcome bar shows whether there were failed attempts.
  • Confirm Settings → Key store path on a machine where you can already open the vault; you may be pointing at a different .ngw3.

No keys in the grid

  • A new account is empty until you compose or import.
  • Group filter may be hiding rows — set it to All groups.
  • Clear the Find box.

Cannot compose or import

  • Evaluation copy: new keys must expire within 30 days; Never expire is disabled.
  • 1024-bit keys are blocked for compose and for encrypt.
  • Import messages: duplicate (already in the store), expired, revoked, malformed, or missing encrypt/sign capability.

Encrypt fails

  • Recipient expired or revoked.
  • Recipient is public-only in a situation that requires something else (signing needs a secret key).
  • Policy rejected a weak algorithm or size.
  • No text in Text Task — empty boxes are not encrypted.

Decrypt fails

  • Wrong key passphrase (not the vault password).
  • File was not encrypted to any secret key in this vault.
  • Input is not a valid OpenPGP message (clipboard decrypt says so if the block is wrong).
  • Clear-sign verify needs the signed message and the signature section together.

Explorer encrypt/decrypt

  • If the workstation is locked or the program is not running, you will be asked to sign in. That is expected.
  • The Explorer window should appear in front; if you do not see it, use the taskbar.

Updates

  • Manual or 30-day check needs Internet. If the check cannot reach the network, you are told there is no connection.

Still stuck

  1. Note the exact message text.
  2. Help → About: version, build date, machine code.
  3. Settings → Key store: vault path.
  4. Use Support (help desk site) or the Help file topic for that window.
